Many years ago (I think it was sometime back in 2011) I went through one of the most painful experiences of my life…
One moment I was grappling for a takedown with my opponent (it was in a jiu-jitsu tournament). Next, my knee folded like soft spaghetti… and a loud “POP” reverberated off the martial arts studio walls.
I dropped in excruciating pain. Later, I’d find out that pop was the sound of my ACL snapping in half…
Yeah, it hurt.
It hurt a lot.
Even more so when I had my surgery (but we’ll come back to that in a moment).
Truth is, I’ve beaten the crap out of my body. Even before I tore my ACL. I’ve broken my wrist (twice) and had countless sprains and strains. Layers-upon-layers of high-impact sports and lifestyle activities have pounded away at my joints.
What’s more, you and I both know that getting older is inevitable.
The signs are clear. You might even see it with your friends and family–more and more of us are:
- Suffering from aches and pains
- Lacking flexibility and mobility
- Experiencing joint stiffness and muscle soreness
- Suffering from injuries incurred in life

Worst part about my knee injury was I could no longer do the things I enjoyed. Things like martial arts, snowboarding, or any sports were off limits.
And when I finally had my knee surgery, it was even worse.
Because I was laid up on the couch next to a bottle of oxies – immobilized, battered, and defeated.
I was a wreck physically, mentally, and emotionally…
Couldn’t move at all. Thus, I became depressed.
The road to recovery wasn’t easy…
I had absolutely no mobility or strength in my leg whatsoever. I remember laying on my back with a strap tied around my ankle, pulling my foot just a little more closer to my butt. Every centimetre further would cause me to cringe…
Yet, I was committed. Determined to fix my knee and move better than ever before…
And once I was able to start physiotherapy, exercise, and yoga – I healed my body up quickly and started moving better than ever.
Best of all, I’m virtually pain-free. Even despite the years of impact.
And I get to do all the activities I want to. For example, snowboarding every winter without any knee issues whatsoever.
