Wish I could say my journey to yoga was some spiritual experience that brought be to enlightenment.
Naw… that’s not me. Truth is, I got into yoga for its amazing benefits in flexibility. But once I uncovered all of the other amazing benefits in body (and mind), I was hooked.
Yoga has levelled me up in so many ways. Ultimately, what I love best about yoga is that it helps me move and feel better. And this is important. Now that I am in my 30s I am realizing it especially.
Young Jason sure beat the sh*t out of his body. I’ll tell you that much. Now aging Jason has to combat past injuries. That or deal with aches and pains.
Yoga is one of my best allies. Whether you need to iron out physical aches or pains; or soothe mental or emotional battles; Yoga is a powerful tool!
Yoga for Weightlifters, Bodybuilders, & Athletes
I became a personal trainer with NASM back in 2011. This was coming from a bounce back after going through painful knee surgery.
Prior to that, I was training in martial arts. In fact, I got into yoga because my flexibility was so bad. My ability to move was terrible. And my jiu-jitsu suffered greatly from it.
But we can get into that story later…
The point is, I discovered the benefits of yoga through martial arts. And how it dramatically improved my performance. When I gave up the martial arts post-surgery, all of my energy went into weightlifting and yoga.
Combining them gave me EPIC results.
Friends at the gym started noticing my Range of Motion. And wanted to know how it got to be that way.
“How the hell are you so bendy?!”, they would say.
“Yoga,” I would tell ’em.
“And YOU should try it too,” I would add.

Truth is, I am not here to share with you the spiritual philosophies of yoga. My goal with BBY is to encourage more people to get into a regular movement practice. Involving the Physical (Asana) and Breath (Pranayama) from yoga.
Built By Yoga focuses on classes, practices, workouts, etc. that are designed with yoga in mind. You will often find the classes will be tailored (like classes designed for weightlifters) for lifestyle needs.
For example, following a gruelling leg workout, it’s nice to cool-down with a nice lower-body yin focused class.
As well, I like to include more modern biomechanics in classes and workouts. We try to keep the essence of ‘flow’. I am a big fan of Power Vinyasa style yoga. And incorporating mindful movement with the breath is a big part of BBY.

But the whole purpose of BuiltByYoga is to do just that. Loosen up tight bodies and improve how you move and feel in everyday life!
